Their native language is German, which is spoken by their community. Amish typically attend school until 8th grade, where they are taught English. Children are taught vocational training at an early age. Non-Amish people are generally referred to as “English.” The Amish community does not want their pictures to be taken, as they believe it steals their soul. Please be respectful of this wish.
